How do I lock and unlock assignments?

Learn how to lock one or multiple assignments, including diagnostics, quizzes, midterms, and finals.

Overview:

From the Educator Portal, the Subject platform offers the ability to lock assignments. Locking assignments can be utilized to control access. Locking provides educators with the ability to administer tests, limit access outside of class, and customize coursework.

How to Lock Assignments:

  1. To access Locking from the Educator Portal > press the Course Manager on the left side of the page and select All sections, or a specific Section.

    1. The app will default to All Sections. This will change the locking of the course across ALL sections. This is primarily used for setting up new school accounts and is NOT recommended for day-to-day use. Changing the locking while you're in All Sections will affect other teacher's sections.

    2. You can set the locking for your section by first selecting your section in the dropdown on the left hand bar.

2. Select the target course. This will allow you to make changes for all students in that course in your section.

2b. If you want to make changes for only a specific student, you can select student the second dropdown.

New Alternative Way to Get to the Course Manager for Locking

  1. Navigate to the Roster tab

  2. Select your target student (a student in your target section)

  3. Click on the 3 dots on the right hand side and select "Set Pacing"

  4. This will take you to the correct section and course in Course Manager. From here, toggle over to Locking

2. Once you filter for Section, Course and Student, you can lock an entire topic by pressing the Check box > press Lock selected > press Save Changes

3. To lock specific assignment(s), press the arrow to the right of the Topic > press the Check box next to the assignment(s), press Save Changes.

TIP: For ease, you can choose to lock all topics, all quizzes and all exams. Click the arrow next to the top checkbox, select from the menu, click Lock Selected then Save Changes.

Unlock Assignment(s)

  1. To unlock assignment(s), repeat the steps above, but instead press Unlock selected > then press Save changes.
