After your students are invited and set up on the platform, you may want to move them to a different section than the one they were originally assigned. Assigning students to sections is a quick and easy way to keep your school or classroom organized. You can also bulk-assign students to a section, saving time compared to updating them individually. This video and article will walk you through the process step by step.

Video walkthrough:

Step-by-step Instructions:

  1. Navigate to the Roster tab on the left-hand side of your Educator Portal. Before proceeding, make sure the Sections dropdown is set to All Sections. If you have a specific section selected, the steps to reassign students will not appear.

2. Select the students you want to move into a section. Use the checkbox next to each student’s name to select one or multiple students, or use the Select All checkbox at the top to select everyone in the list.

3. Assign students to a section by choosing the desired section from the Select a Section dropdown, then click Assign to complete the process. The selected students will now be placed into that section.

Note: Assigning a student to a section does not automatically enroll them in a course. If you also need to enroll your students in a course, see how to do that based on your school's integration type: Manual, Hybrid, or Full integration — or see Bulk Enrolling Students Into a Course below for a faster way to enroll multiple students in Manual or Hybrid schools.

Note: This process also works for assigning teachers. To do this, switch to the Educators tab in your Roster instead of the Learners tab, then select the teachers you want to assign to a section.

Bulk Enrolling Students Into a Course

If your school uses a Manual or Hybrid integration, you can enroll multiple students into the same course at once, right from the Roster — no need to open each student's profile individually. This is a similar workflow to what's outlined above, and can pair well when used one after the other. Assign students to a section first, then enroll them all in a course.

  1. Select a specific section from the Sections dropdown in the top-left of your Educator Portal — not All Sections. The bulk course-enrollment option only appears once a specific section is selected.

  2. Go to the Roster tab and check the boxes next to the students you want to enroll, or use Select All to choose everyone in that section.

  3. An option to enroll the selected students into a course will appear. Choose the course from the dropdown and confirm.

Important: Whether your Roster shows the "assign to section" workflow or the "bulk enroll into a course" workflow depends entirely on your Sections dropdown selection:

  • All Sections selected → the Roster shows the workflow for assigning students to a section (see Steps 1–3 above).

  • One specific section selected → the Roster shows the workflow for bulk enrolling students into a course (Steps 1–3 in this section).

If you're not seeing the option you expect, double-check which Sections dropdown setting is currently active — this is the most common source of confusion between the two workflows.
