Overview
AI Personalization tailors course content, including video, text, and practice questions, to each student's individual interests.
Students choose up to 5 interests from a list of about 67 options, covering things like sports, music, gaming, fashion, food, and creative arts. Using those interests, the platform automatically generates:
A Personalized Intro Lesson: a short, ungraded lesson at the very start of the course. It greets the student by name, connects one of their interests to the topic they're about to learn, and includes 1–2 short videos. It's labeled "Just For You" so students know it's made specifically for them.
Personalized practice questions: select practice questions later in the course are re-themed around a student's interest. The underlying skill or concept being tested stays exactly the same; only the example or scenario changes.
A companion feature called Localization works the same way, but personalizes content based on a student's general region or state instead of their interests.
All personalized content is reviewed before students ever see it. Nothing is generated live in the moment, and our Education team reviews everything for curriculum accuracy before it's published. Not every course lends itself equally well to personalization (for example, courses built around a specific named text), so you may notice it appears more in some courses than others.
AI Personalization is on by default for all students. Educators can turn it off, for a whole school or for individual students, at any time, as described below.
Can Students Change Their Interests Later?
Yes. Students choose their interests the first time they log in, but they're never locked in. A student can update their interests at any time by following these steps:
Click the initials icon in the top right corner and select Account.
Select Edit My Interests, then add, remove, or swap out interests as needed.
Once saved, future personalized lessons and practice questions will reflect the student's updated interests.
Managing AI Personalization at the School Level
District Admins or Admins can turn AI Personalization on or off for every student at a school. This setting overrides any individual student-level setting, so if it's turned off at the school level, no student at that school will have access, even if their individual setting says otherwise.
Make sure you have All Sections selected.
Go to Settings > Additional Settings.
Find the AI Personalization for Students toggle and switch it on or off.
When this is on, students at the school have access to AI Personalization. When it's off, no student at the school will see personalized content, regardless of their individual setting.
Managing AI Personalization for an Individual Student
Admins and teachers can also turn AI Personalization on or off for one student at a time. This is useful if a specific student (or their family) would prefer not to use the feature, while everyone else at the school keeps it on.
Go to Roster and select the student.
Open the Student Interests tab.
Toggle AI Personalization on or off for that student.
Note: this individual setting only applies if AI Personalization is turned on at the school level. If it's off school-wide, the student-level toggle won't override that.
Can Educators View Their Students' AI Personalized Content?
Yes. Once a student has fully completed an assignment that includes AI personalized content, teachers can view that content in the Scorebook. Personalized content is marked with a sparkle icon so it's easy to spot.
Note: a student must fully complete the assignment before a teacher or admin can view the personalized content within it.
Can Students Give Feedback or Report Content That Seems Off?
Yes. At the end of each personalized lesson, students can rate the content, and if something looks inaccurate or off, they can report it and leave a comment explaining why.

Q: Do students pick their own interests?
A: Yes. Students select up to 5 interests themselves from the available list the first time they log in, and they can update their selections at any time from their Account page.
Q: Does personalization change what's actually being taught?
A: No. The underlying skill, concept, or standard being covered never changes. Only the surrounding example, scenario, or theme is adjusted to match the student's interests.
Q: Does Localization track a student's precise location?
A: No. Localization uses general information like a student's region or state to tailor examples. It does not track or use precise location data.
Q: Is personalized content reviewed before students see it?
A: Yes. All personalized content is generated ahead of time and reviewed by our Education team for curriculum accuracy before it's published. Nothing is generated live while a student is working.
Q: If I turn this off at the school level, can a teacher turn it back on for one student?
A: No. The school-level setting overrides individual student settings. If it's off for the school, it stays off for every student there, regardless of their individual setting.
Q: Is every course personalized?
A: Not necessarily. Some courses, like those built around a specific named text, don't have a natural way to swap in personalized content, so you may see personalization show up more in some courses than others.
