Integration type: Full (Rostering and Enrollment Automation via SIS)
Schools on a Full integration have their SIS connected directly to Subject via API. All users, enrollments, and roster changes are managed through the SIS and synced automatically. You cannot invite or create new users directly within the Subject platform. All new users must be added through the SIS.
How New Users Get Added
New users must be added through your district's SIS:
A district admin or IT staff adds the new user in the SIS and enrolls them in the appropriate Subject course.
The user's account and enrollment automatically sync to Subject (typically within hours).
The user logs in via your school's SSO login link using their existing SSO credentials.
The user immediately sees their enrolled course in Subject.
No manual steps are needed in the Subject platform. Both the user account and their course enrollment are handled automatically through the SIS sync.
Why Can I Not Invite Users in Subject?
In a Full integration, the SIS is the single source of truth for all user and enrollment data. Direct editing of the Subject roster is disabled to ensure consistency. This means:
Educators cannot manually invite users or create new accounts in Subject.
Educators cannot manually enroll students in courses in Subject.
The Invite User and Bulk Invite features are not available.
Subject Support also cannot manually add users or process enrollment changes for fully integrated schools.
All user and enrollment changes must go through the SIS via the district admin.
Who to Contact
To add a new user, reach out to your district admin or IT department and ask them to:
Create the user account in the SIS (if it does not already exist).
Enroll the user in the appropriate Subject course within the SIS.
Confirm the enrollment has synced to Subject (typically within hours).
What If the User Is Not Showing Up in Subject?
Verify the user has been added to the SIS and enrolled in the correct Subject course with the proper course code mapping.
SIS syncs may take some time. If the user was just added, wait a few hours and check again.
If the user still does not appear, contact your district admin to verify the SIS setup and course mapping.
If the issue persists after confirming the SIS is correct, reach out to [email protected] for assistance.
Important Notes
Passwords are managed by your district's SSO system, not within Subject.
If you need a user added urgently and cannot reach your district admin, contact [email protected] to discuss options. However, Subject Support cannot override SIS-managed accounts directly.
If a user was removed from Subject by mistake, contact your district admin to restore them in the SIS. Previous progress in Subject can be restored upon request.
