This guide outlines the process for migrating your district from a manual setup to a hybrid integration with Subject. A hybrid integration adds SSO authentication for simplified login while maintaining flexibility in enrollment management.

What is a Hybrid Integration?

Hybrid Integration = SSO authentication + Manual enrollment management in Subject

Key benefits:

  • Simplified login for students and staff via SSO

  • Flexibility to manage enrollments directly in Subject

What Changes with Hybrid Integration?

Login Method

  • Students and staff will use SSO to log in (Clever, ClassLink, or direct SIS SSO)

    • Users will NO LONGER be able to login at app.subject.com

  • No more individual usernames/passwords

  • Single sign-on with district credentials

User Account Creation

  • User accounts sync from your SSO provider

  • You will no longer need to invite users to the platform - student accounts will automatically be created

What Stays the Same?

Enrollment Management

  • Teachers and admins can still add/remove students in Subject

  • Full control over class rosters in the platform

  • No requirement for specific course codes in SIS

Student Progress

  • All student work and progress is preserved

  • No disruption to ongoing coursework

Teaching Workflow

  • Course content remains the same

  • Assignment and grading process unchanged
