Educators can now grade student work as soon as it's submitted. You no longer need to wait for the Subject team to score an assignment for you.
Previously, you could only enter a score in two situations: when an assignment was unsubmitted, or to override a score after Subject had already graded it. You can still do both of those, and now you can also score assignments that are in Submitted status.
Step 1: Find the Assignment
From your homepage, go to the Roster.
Select the student, then select the course.
Find the assignment you want to grade. Assignments ready for you to grade will show a Submitted status.
Step 2: Review the Student's Submission
Click anywhere on the assignment row to open the student's full submission.
Multiple choice questions
Multiple choice questions are graded automatically, so you don't need to score them yourself. For each question, you'll see the student's answer alongside the correct answer. This is helpful if a student asks which questions they missed.
Tip: Keep track of how many points the multiple choice section is worth, since you'll add it to your free response scores to get the final total.
Free response questions
Free response (short or long answer) questions don't have answer keys, but every one comes with a rubric to guide your grading.
Open the Rubric tab on the right side of the submission. This tab appears on any assignment that includes at least one free response question.
Each free response question has its own rubric. Each rubric includes the question's learning objective and a description of what a response looks like at each level, from fully meeting the objective down to limited or no understanding.
Compare the student's answer to the rubric descriptions and decide how many points to award for each question.
Step 3: Enter the Score
Go back to the Roster page for the same assignment.
Click Add score on the assignment row.
Enter the student's total score: the auto-graded multiple choice points plus the points you awarded for free response. You'll see how many total points the assignment is worth.
Optionally, add a comment for the student. Comments can only be saved once a score has been entered.
The assignment status will change to Scored, and the student will see their score for that assignment.
