Educators can use Scorebook in a number of ways, but the ability to quickly lock or unlock specific assignments on an individual student level or entire section level is one of the most powerful.

Step by step instructions on locking/unlocking assignments using Scorebook.

  1. From your Educator Portal, navigate to the Scorebook tab on the left-hand side of your screen.

2. Select the specific Section you’d like to view the Scorebook for from the list of available Sections. This will open the Scorebook for that Section, showing every student currently assigned to it.

Note: If you only have access to one Section within Subject, you’ll be taken directly to that Scorebook without needing to select it first.

3. Once you’re in the Scorebook for your chosen Section, use the filter options at the top to organize your students and easily locate the assignments you’d like to lock.
You can filter by:

  • Course

  • Individual or all students

  • Enrollment status (active vs. completed)

  • Content type (graded assignment or video lesson)

Example: Here, we’re viewing our Demo Account student in AP Statistics A.

4. After filtering, locate the specific assignment you’d like to lock. In this case, we’ll lock Topic 1 Assignment 1. Hover over the Topic 1 Assignment 1 block in the Scorebook, then click the three dots (⋯) menu to open the Lock/Unlock assignment options.

5. Select Lock assignment. A confirmation window will appear, giving you the option to apply the lock to all students in your Section.
Before confirming, double-check that you’re locking assignments for the correct student(s):

  • To lock for one student only: make sure “Apply to all students in [Section Name]” is unchecked.

  • To lock for every student in the Section: leave the box checked.

Once you’ve confirmed your selection, click Lock Assignment to finalize.

6. You’ll know the assignment is successfully locked when a small lock icon 🔒 appears within the assignment box.

FAQs

Q: What does locking an assignment do?

A: Locking an assignment prevents a student (or group of students) from submitting or editing work on that specific assignment.
It’s often used to:

  • Close access after a due date

  • Maintain grading integrity

  • Manage pacing across multiple students or Sections

Once locked, students will still see the assignment, but it will appear as read-only until it’s unlocked by the teacher.

Q: Can I lock multiple assignments at once?

A: At this time, assignments can only be locked one at a time within Scorebook.
If you need to apply the same lock across multiple assignments, you’ll need to repeat the process for each one.

Q: Can I lock assignments for an entire Section instead of one student?

A: Yes! When you click Lock assignment, you’ll see an option to “Apply to all students in [Section Name]” on the confirmation screen. Selecting this option will lock that assignment for every student in the Section.

If you only want to lock an assignment for one student, make sure this box is unchecked before confirming.

Q: Who can lock assignments in Scorebook?

A: Only educators or admins with Scorebook access permissions for that Section can lock or unlock assignments. Students cannot change lock settings.

Q: Can I unlock an assignment after it’s been locked?

A: Yes! Follow the same steps as locking, but select Unlock assignment instead.
This will immediately restore access for the selected student(s).
