Setting Pacing

Pacing controls student to-do lists and status indicators (On Track, Behind, etc.) by automatically assigning due dates to course assignments. You can set pacing for an entire section or for individual students.

Before You Begin

  • Open your Educator Portal and confirm the correct Section is selected in the Sections dropdown.

Step 1: Go to Pacing in Course Manager

  1. In the left-hand navigation, click Course Manager.

  2. You'll land on the Pacing tab by default. If needed, confirm it's selected (it will be underlined in blue).

Step 2: Select Students

Choose the course you want to pace, then select which students to apply pacing to: either all students in the section or a specific individual.

Step 3: Select Topics

Choose the topics you want to pace. In most cases, you'll pace the entire course. However, you can select only a portion, useful for students joining partway through a semester.

To select all topics at once, use the Select All button at the top.

Step 4: Assign Pacing Dates

  1. With your topics selected, click the blue Update Pacing button.

  2. From the dropdown, choose Assign New Pacing Date.

  3. In the pacing window, enter your Start Date and End Date.

  4. Optionally, set the due time and time zone for assignments.

Step 5: Set Blackout Dates (Optional)

If you want to exclude certain dates (e.g., school holidays):

  1. Toggle on Add Excluded Dates.

  2. Select the dates to exclude from the calendar.

Note: You don't need to manually exclude weekends. The system skips weekends by default unless you enable the Allow Target Dates to be Set on Weekends toggle.

Step 6: Apply and Save

Click Apply Pacing, then Save Changes. The system will automatically assign due dates to all assignments in the course.

Clearing Pacing

To remove pacing from a course, select the assignments and follow the same steps above — but choose Clear Pacing Dates instead of Assign New Pacing Date.
